Information Architect

Location
New York

Overview
The Information Architect will be responsible for developing and documenting the structure of a product. The IA candidate will define and describe the information, relationships, and navigation models at the product, screen, and module levels. The IA candidate will develop approaches to the categorization and hierarchical structure of content or content types.

Responsibilities
  • Employ user-centered design processes to ensure that information is useful and usable.
  • Communicate and document design decisions effectively using images and text.
  • Understand and diagram relationships between site content or features.
  • Develop controlled vocabularies and document relationships between terms.
  • Develop hierarchical classification systems for navigation or other categorization needs.
  • Create tagging schemes for information access via search, browse, or form filling.
  • Establish approach to requirements gathering, prioritizing, and tracking.
  • Establish, document, maintain and revise functional specifications Document all levels of prototypes through final specifications to include UI behaviors, user interaction models, workflow, interaction requirements, etc.
Experience/Skills
  • Understanding of how explicit business value can be synthesized into innovative design solutions.
  • Excellent skills in concept development and design implementation.
  • Excellent ability in design and solution development.
  • Diagrammatic sensibility; strong orientation toward 'modeling'.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Visualization skills or the ability to leverage design resources to visually articulate models.
  • Strong sense of process and the ability to innovate on process tools and conventions.
  • Solid command of User Experience offerings (across research and design).
  • Administrated commitment to mentor and share knowledge across teams and company-wide.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (BA or BFA) in graphic design, interface, information, interaction design, design planning, literature, communications, or human centered design preferred. Additionally, relevant work experience in one or two of the above areas may substitute for advanced degree.
  • 2-3 years experience developing digital products, such as websites, CD-ROMs, or software.
  • Experience in client services and in negotiating business decisions.
  • Experience observing user research and translating user research into design decisions.
  • Project experience in working with teams.
  • Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
